New LSTA Massachusetts Long Range Plan Available for Comment

posted Thursday, 10 May 2007

forwarded by Beth Wade, Grants Manager, Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners

The Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) requires that the BLC submit a Long Range Plan to set broad strategic direction for the use of Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) federal funds, to inform Massachusetts libraries of these directions, and to meet statutory requirements.

A draft of the new Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) Massachusetts Long Range Plan 2008-2012 is now available for public
comment at:
http://mblc.state.ma.us/grants/lsta/draftplan2012.php .

You will note that the format is somewhat different from the current plan (which may be found on our website at:
http://mblc.state.ma.us/grants/lsta/plan/index.php)

We are trying to ore closely follow the model provided by IMLS.  We will be including Fact Sheets from our current programs (they are referred to in the sections called "Program Portfolio") in an appendix.  (These Fact Sheets and other appended materials are also available on the MBLC website.)

The plan is due at the Institute of Museum and Library Services by June 30, 2007.

The plan was prepared by Board's Library Development Unit with the assistance of  the Long Range Planning Subcommittee of the State Advisory Council on Libraries (SACL) (a list of members is attached),which was appointed by the Board to evaluate the current plan and to assist in writing the new plan for 2008-2012.

Your comments on the new plan are welcome. You may send them either in writing or by e-mail to me at the address below, or to Nancy Rea, Deputy
Director and Head of Library Development at nancy.rea@state.ma.us.

Please send comments by May 24, 2007.
